I was Googling for Renaissance faires and stumbled across something called the Corona Pyrate Faire. I had no idea what to expect, but, what the heck, it seemed like a cool way to spend a day. Well, actually it turned out to be a scorcher of a day (temperatures exceeded 100 degrees), but it was fun. Not quite the same as a Renaissance Faire, but still quite enjoyable.

Beautiful lady, eh?

I had no idea what to wear to a pyrate faire, so I just threw on a hat and my normal clothes. I decided to be comfortable. I was glad that I did, although I did not blend in with the natives at all, because it was so incredibly hot.

I arrived as soon as the faire opened, at 11am, which is later than most Renaissance Faires (normally they seem to open at 10am). This faire also remained open far later than other faires, all the way until 9pm (I left much earlier due to the heat). In hindsight, I should have gotten there later, towards the evening, as the weather would have been more cooperative.

This faire was certainly different than the Renaissance Faires that I am used to. I found the pirate theme to be quite enjoyable, kind of a blend of the Renaissance with a dozen other eras.

This was a great show. I caught it first thing, and was only one of two people in the audience.

As always, the faire had plentyof entertainment, including signing and dancing. The show to the left was quite fun to watch. The entertainers had energy even though only two people were in the audience.

Years ago I would never have seen myself enjoying this kind of thing, but now I like listening to the music and watching the show.

Looks a bit like Johnny Depp, doesn't he?

Of course, what would a pirate faire be without pirates. There were hundreds of them all over the place. Women pirates and men alike (and a couple that I couldn't tell whether they were men or women, but who cared?) The costumes ranged from the simple to the extremely complex, complete with braided hair, jewelry and tattoos. Of course, all of the pirates had sidearms (which was different than a Renaissance faire, which only has swords and knives) and the usual pirate knife.

I thought this lady was very pretty and she did an excellent belly dance.

This pirate singer and his companion were quite good, as was all of the entertainment. He sang a few pirate songs, and I noticed that some audience members sat there for over an hour listening to them.

Well, she was worth a couple of pictures!

All in all, I was very happy with this faire. Yes, it was extremely hot, but still, the shows were good, the women were pretty and the food was great.

If you've enjoyed your visit, please take a moment to drop some change into the tip jar to the left. Many thanks.
