Casa de Fruta Renaissance Faire, October
1st, 2005

Official Web Site
On
October 1st, I was originally scheduled to
attend a class called "Indians of the Desert" in
Joshua Tree National Park, but the class was
canceled. I wanted to do something, so I invited
my friend Sandra to attend the Northern
California Renaissance Faire with me. This faire
is strongly tied to the
Southern California Faire (which happens in
the spring) and is definitely one of the larger
faires in the area.
We began our long trip to the faire at 4:00am
on Saturday morning and arrived about 15 minutes
before opening, at 9:45am. It's a beautiful trip
straight up the 5 freeway, taking a left on the
152 to Casa de Fruta.
One
of the strengths of the Southern California
Faire is that the entire faire is more-or-less a
single coordinated event. The Northern Faire is
similar, beginning with a short opening show and
with parades and such all day long. I enjoyed
the short opening act, which lasted about
fifteen minutes, which sets the stage for the
rest of the day. The theme of the faire was
described, some of the major characters were
introduced and the sense of play and fun was
established.
 The
Belles were, as always, awesome. They are one of
the happiest groups of entertainers at a faire,
and every time I see their show I feel like I'm
watching some friends instead of just a group of
entertainers. As with the Wives, I've seen the
Belles' show over a dozen times, but the
material never seems to get old. The Belles add
a touch of freshness to each of their shows by
calling up a gentleman from the audience, whom
they call "Dick", and integrate him into their
show. It makes each play they put on completely
different from every other one, and adds to my
enjoyment immensely. See more images from the

 One
of the reasons why I wanted to attend this faire
is two of my favorite acts, the Merry Wives of
Windsor and the Belles of Bedlam, were doing
their acts all day long. The Wives were
beautiful and talented, as always, with their
normal singing, sensual acts. Of course, I've
seen it over a dozen times, but I have not yet
gotten tired of their show. I find it fresh and
fun each time. See more images from the Wives

At this faire, I was very impressed with the
Belly Dancers. I would say these are the best of
the best that I've seen. All of them were
beautiful and they could really dance well.

I love the hats at the faire, and the lady to
the right had one of the best.

It's become sort of a tradition for me to
make a difficult choice as I go through the
pictures from each faire. Which picture shows
the prettiest lady at the faire? For this faire,
I'd have to say the lady to the left is one of
the most beautiful women that I've seen, and she
wins the prize for "Most Beautiful lady at the
Northern California Renaissance faire on October
1st, 2005". |
