Renaissance Faire

Using my pictures

I am an artist. My canvas is digital and my pen is a camera. I enjoy capturing what I see in digital form so that others may enjoy what I have enjoyed. Each of my pictures tells a story, and each gallery of photos that I display is a book full of stories.

Sometimes the picture is the story of a dancer, how she moves or spins. Or it might be the story of someone at a Renaissance faire or a reenactment, and on occasion it's a simple tale of a flower, butterfly or even a building. I have often heard the comment that my gallery of each faire is the story of my day at that faire, the places I visited, the shows that I saw, the people I talked with and so on. This is true, as each gallery is intended to tell a story of a journey. Sometimes it is a journey to a faire, sometimes a show, and sometimes a hike or a trip.

I retain copyright on every picture, every word of text and everything else on this site (except for a few items owned by others used with permission). The copyright is not released or transferred for any reason. It is important to note that by granting permission to use my photographs I am not giving up my copyright.

The pictures that I take of dancers may be used by those dancers in any way that they wish. When I take photos of a dancer, I feel I am working with a fellow artist, and it's only fitting to share my work with my collaborator. Dancers may crop the pictures, shrink them, cut them into pieces, use them as icons on myspace or tribe (or wherever), use them in promotional materials or even on their web sites. I do ask that my copyright notice remain on the completed image. No payment from dancers is necessary, since my feeling is that I have already received an exchange in abundance by simply being allowed to watch their show and photograph their art.

The same sentiments apply towards those kind people at the various faires, reenactments and events that I photograph. I am an artist, and I am capturing the art of the faire performers in a digital medium for others to enjoy. All of you kind people have given me much enjoyment, and the least I can do is allow you the use of my art in return. Performers at faires may use my pictures on their guild sites, personal web sites, myspace (or similar) pages and so on without concern of payment.

I would appreciate a note showing me where my pictures have been used so that I may see where they wind up. Just send me an email using this link. A link or some kind of credit is also appreciated.

My pictures may not be used under any circumstances in a way which promotes hate, illegal activities or violence, degrades any religion or religious beliefs, is grossly pornographic in nature or in any way promotes or recommends psychiatry or psychiatric drugs. This includes web sites, myspace (or similar pages), promotional materials and so on. My work is intended to uplift people, not tear them down.
